Living the Active Lifestyle: Outdoor Activities in Punta Gorda

As the snowbirds return north, and the summer heat arrives, now is a great time to enjoy the great outdoors that Punta Gorda offers. Our charming city nestled on the Gulf Coast offers a treasure trove of opportunities for those who crave an active lifestyle. So, lace up your walking shoes, grab your kayak paddle, or hop on your bike – it's time to explore Punta Gorda's vibrant outdoor scene!

Embrace Your Inner Explorer:

1- Babcock Ranch Eco-Tours: Immerse yourself in the sprawling beauty of Babcock Ranch. Glide through cypress swamps on an airboat tour, keeping your eyes peeled for alligators and a variety of birdlife. Hike or bike along scenic trails, or take a historic tram tour to learn about the ranch's rich past. For more information, visit their website.

2 - Peace River: This majestic river is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Kayak or canoe along its tranquil waters, spotting manatees and dolphins as you go. Cast a line and try your luck at reeling in a feisty bass or snapper. For airboat tours, swamp buggy rides, and horseback adventures, visit Peace River Charters.

3 - Peace River Wildlife Center: Get up close to Florida's native wildlife at this rehabilitation center in Ponce de Leon Park. Hit the Trails

4- Punta Gorda Pathways: The Punta Gorda Pathways is a system of approximately 18 miles of bicycle and pedestrian trails that connect the City's neighborhoods, parks, and commercial areas. This scenic trail stretches for a mile along the waterfront, offering stunning views of the harbor and marina. It's perfect for a leisurely stroll, a morning jog, or a scenic bike ride.

5- Harborwalk: One of our favorite segments of the Punta Gorda Pathways is Harborwalk. Along this stretch, you can browse charming shops, savor fresh seafood at waterfront restaurants, and soak up the lively atmosphere. Beginning at Adrienne Street near Bayfront Health Punta Gorda on Marion Avenue, the mostly concrete path runs along the mangroves of the Peace River a short distance before it shifts north slightly reaching Laishley Park.

6- Gilchrist Park: This waterfront park boasts a network of nature trails, picnic areas, and a dog park. It's a great spot for an afternoon picnic, a game of frisbee with your furry friend, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet of nature. Here, you will also find public tennis courts, pickleball courts, a playground, and more.

Bonus Activities:

7- Sunset Cruises: End your day with a magical experience – a sunset cruise on the Peace River. Watch the fiery sky melt into the water as you enjoy a refreshing drink and capture breathtaking photos. King Fisher Fleet out of Fishermen’s Village is a great spot to pick up one of these cruises.

8- Fishing Charters: Head offshore on a fishing charter for an unforgettable adventure. Reel in a variety of fish, from sporty mackerel to prized sailfish. Check out Reel Rich Fishing and other highly rated charters here

Punta Gorda caters to all levels of outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or just starting to explore the joys of being active, this vibrant city has something for you. So, come experience the beauty of nature, get your heart pumping, and create lasting memories in Punta Gorda!
