Plans are underway for new residential construction in the Burnt Store community formerly known as Tern Bay, a golf course community which was abandoned by its developers during the recession. Lennar Homes has put up signs advertising the new community name of Heritage Landings Golf & Country Club. We are anticipating homes, condos, and villas, with prices advertised to start in the $180,000’s. The overgrown landscaping has been cleaned up, and we are thrilled to see this continued growth in the Burnt Store area. We are anxiously awaiting more information from Lennar and will post an update on our website as soon as we know more.
Babcock Ranch
America’s first solar city continues its construction with phase 1 of Lennar-built Trail’s Edge homes nearly sold out. Unit sales at Babcock are up to 230 under contract, 100 of which have already closed. Babcock has expanded its market to now offer villas and townhomes, with prices starting below $200,000, which is a critical price point for this community located on the outskirts of Punta Gorda and Fort Myers. Stop by Babcock Ranch’s restaurant, Table & Tap (pictured above) for some leisure and good food!
Commercial Update
Aldi’s Open on Jones Loop Rd
Officially open for business- Aldi’s grocery store held its grand opening on Sept 20th. It is located next to the WalMart on Jones Loop Rd.
Starbucks Punta Gorda Location
Construction is underway on the new Punta Gorda Starbucks. The walls began going up this week. It will be located in front of the Cross Trails Center on US 41 by Elenas and Bealls Outlet.
Wawa Construction Begins
Jones Loop Road is awaiting the addition of a Wawa gas station in the empty lot diagonally across from WalMart. For those of you not familiar with Wawa, it is not your typical gas station! They specialize in hot breakfasts, made to order sandwiches, salads, wraps, and soups. Plus a variety of fresh hot and iced coffees, lattes and frozen beverages. The lot has been cleared and a Coming Soon sign has been put up.
Burnt Store Road Widening Update
The County has been working with Southwest Florida Water Management District and the Army Corps of Engineers to obtain the necessary permits for the project. Studies have resulted in the need for additional land and those land aquisitions have begun. The timeline for construction is unknown at this point, but the county is working diligently to keep the project moving forward.
Bird Section Cut Through
Now known as The Buckley’s Pass project is an additional navigational access channel connecting the Punta Gorda Isles canal system to Charlotte Harbor through a shorter, more convenient, and direct route than is currently available through the existing Ponce de Leon Inlet harbor access point for properties located in the Bird Section of PGI. The access channel will be cut through an existing mixed wetland and upland area connecting the city’s canal system to Alligator Creek, which then connects directly to Charlotte Harbor about 1 mile down the creek.
The Army Corp of Engineers approved the permit for the cut through on Aug 7 and the city approved the land purchase needed to facilitate this cut through on Aug 22. The sale is planned to go through by the end of the year. The current plan is to award the bid for construction by May of 2019.
